Cramp or muscle spasm is a sudden painful involuntary contraction of all muscle fibers of muscles because the nerves send wrong or too many signals. Often cramps occur in the calves, but also in the toes, they belly....

crampsPossible causes
heavy strain on the muscles, e.g.during exercise, poor conditional training,
impaired blood supply and therefore a shortage of oxygen in the muscle such as when wearing tight stockings, wrong posture,
fatigue and stress,
a lack of magnesium, calcium, salt or glucose,
dehydration, profuse sweating
excessive cooling of the muscles (e.g. swimmers)
illness or poisoning.

The stretching of the muscles can help against cramps.
Keep stretching, rubbing and squeezing, massaging to break the reflex, and stay, in spite of pain, moving.

Stress and fatigue take up a lot of magnesium.
Magnesium and calcium play an important role in muscle contraction. A deficiency can cause cramps.

Especially whole grains, dark green leafy vegetables and fruits are important sources of magnesium, also bananas, nuts and seeds, carrots, avocado, beets, seaweed, legumes and dried fruits, honey. Drink plenty of water or fruit juice.
