If the bacterium Clostridium tetani (which survives in soil and road), comes in a small deep wound it produces tetanus toxin. This causes painful muscle spasms. Eventually, cardiac or respiratory paralysis. Tetanus vaccination is valid for 10 years.

Antiseptic and healing properties are attributed to thyme (Thymus vulgaris), birch, self heal (or heal all: Prunella vulgaris).
Plants that help to stanch the bleeding: bistort (Persicaria bistorta), yarrow (Achillea millefolium), shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa- pastoris), field horsetail (Equisetum arvense) and marigold (Calendula officinalis).
