Vegetables and fruit are edible parts of plants, but no precise botanical terms.
Fruit is the collective name for sugary edible fruits and false fruits (:strawberry with seeds on the outside) of woody plants. A fruit is the edible part of a plant that contains the seed. Some seeds themselves are summarized under the term nuts. Ripe fruit is usually sweet and often eaten raw.

Vegetable is the collective name for all other edible parts of plants.
Vegetable comes from annuals plants and fruit of perennial.

Doubtful cases are tomato, a fruit that is counted as vegetable, and rhubarb that looks as a vegetable but also is treated as fruit in sweet dishes.
Potato is usually counted as vegetables, sometimes seen as a separate category.

Wild apple varieties became larger and more attractive for large animals through natural selection 12 to 5 million years ago. Mammoths, among others, spread seeds and the selected species.

Our current apples, peaches, apricots, grapes, nuts and melons come from the mountainous part of Central Asia. Seeds were found along the Silk Road, around Tashbulak (Pamir Mountains, Eastern Uzbekistan) at an altitude where trees don’t grow. A thousand years ago they were already transported and traded to the Mediterranean region. Species were further domesticated by crosses and grafting.
